You came to her unknowing
unknown
let her get under your skin
let her change you
with her you sing and dance
disregard time
stay out late
sleep in
smile, laugh
wander, marvel
release the strains
to which you had once become resigned.
You cannot get enough of her.
You glow when you describe her
bejeweled, lit from within by night
vibrant, exciting by day
you follow every which way she turns
circles back on herself
chases you down the rain-slicked paths
goads you to climb after her
heart pounding
breath labored.
You will follow her anywhere.
You disregard her tardiness
impetuousness
capriciousness
her need to live by her own rules
no obligation to bend to your will
no apologies for your inconvenience.
You are enraptured.
You forgive
the dead mouse outside the front door
belly up and immobile
3 days and she has yet to sweep it
the careless disregard
mandarin orange peels, bottle caps
broken glass shards
the rank smell
of body fluids
piss, sweat, shit
staining her pink skin
brownish green
her back a rage of graffiti.
You want more of her.
You allow her to dead end for no reason
to close on a whim
to tell stories you don’t understand
show her age
her disrepair
her acrid smells
used and musty
arouse your own
dank fetid longings
unjudged and unjudging
your sex is awakened
desire to please, possess, protect.
You will take care of her.
You talk only of her gifts
her sweetness
her welcome arms
her never-ending beauty
her capacity to surprise
delight
bedazzle
the aliveness she kindles.
You will never leave her.
She asks you to leave behind everything you’ve known
give everything you have left to her
abandon your search for others
with only one promise – she will never change for you
in gratitude you fall to your knees
pledge undying loyalty
embrace her
breathe in her sharp and sweet musk
enter her, claim her
sway and pulse
hold and release
your own fresh sourness.
Love me the way you love her.
FABULOUS!!!!!
She has given you so much more than you ever imagined. Love this ode 💟.
Un beso!
Damn! So powerful and so beautiful!
Like Guanajuato!
I love the story you tell of Guanajuato and you. It is very powerful and I envy you that kind of reaction. I think you learned a lot from Guanajuato. I wonder, though, what you taught her in return??
BUT, I wonder why you try to distance yourself from it all? “You,” after all, is not “I”. That final line really disclaims your ownership of what the poem says. And, I don’t believe it.
Definitely worth having read. Another one I should print out.
Thanks for sharing it.
